counselors at conference

School Counselors Mary Brook Miller and Cristin Myers from Floyd T. Binns Middle School and Katie McWilliams from Eastern View High School presented two sessions at the Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) conference on Thursday, October 20, 2022 in Hampton, VA.

"Guided by Purpose, Fueled by Passion" was the theme for the conference. The CCPS School Counselors presented sessions called "Working Smarter not Harder, Using Free Technology Resources" and "Coffee with Counselors, for Counselors" (CWC). The technology presentation was geared toward helping counselors streamline as much of their program as possible so their time can be spent on what matters- working with students. The Coffee with Counselors presentation detailed how McWilliams and Myers developed the in-house professional development series for staff.

McWilliams and Myers presented the CWC session at a conference last year and received positive feedback.  They were encouraged to share their tech resources, which inspired them to develop the second presentation.

"We were so proud to be able to represent Culpeper County's professional school counselors by showcasing how we use technology in our programs and sharing our in-house PD series.  The conference also provided some amazing information and resources to strengthen and grow our programs," Myers said.

Kim Hicks and Deb Birkett from Culpeper County High School also attended the VSCA conference.
