Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) is expanding the use of weapons detection systems to additional school events, including home football games and other large CCPS events, as part of the school division’s ongoing commitment to student, staff and community safety.
CCPS began piloting the non-invasive, walk-through weapons detection systems during the 2025-2026 school year. The systems were used at home basketball games at Culpeper County High School and Eastern View High School as the division evaluated the technology and its impact on school operations.
The expanded use of the systems builds on that pilot and represents another proactive step in CCPS’s comprehensive approach to school safety. The systems are designed to allow attendees to walk through the screening area as they enter an event. CCPS staff and law enforcement partners will work together to make the process as safe and efficient as possible.
Those attending events where the systems are in use are encouraged to arrive early and allow a few additional minutes for security screening. Attendees of athletic events are also reminded that CCPS follows the Battlefield District No Bag Policy and that outside food and beverages are not permitted.
Firearms and other weapons are prohibited on school property and at school-sponsored events, subject to applicable Virginia law and its limited statutory exceptions.
CCPS continues to work closely with the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and other public safety partners to review safety practices and identify opportunities to strengthen security throughout the school division.
