Culpeper County Public Schools has named Rachael Ruiz as the division's new School Nurse Supervisor. Ruiz succeeds Caitlin Girten, who recently accepted a teaching position at the Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC).

Ruiz brings a diverse healthcare background and a strong commitment to student wellness. She has served as the school nurse at Emerald Hill Elementary School for the past two years after previously working as a labor and delivery nurse at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center. Prior to becoming a registered nurse, she managed a large veterinary clinic for seven years.

As School Nurse Supervisor, Ruiz will lead the division's team of school nurses and oversee health services that support the well-being and academic success of more than 8,000 CCPS students.

"I am deeply honored to serve as the Nurse Supervisor for Culpeper County Public Schools," said Ruiz. "School health is about more than caring for students when they are ill—it is about fostering a culture where every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. I am honored to serve alongside an exceptional team of school nurses and I look forward to partnering with them, educators, families, and the community to strengthen student health services, promote wellness, and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. It is a privilege to contribute to the district's mission of preparing healthy, confident learners for a successful future."

Ruiz lives in Rixeyville with her five children.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, reading, crocheting, and relaxing around a bonfire.
