Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) is proud to recognize and thank the Giant Company/MARTIN’S Food Stores and the Culpeper community for their continued support through the 2026 Feeding School Kids Round Up Program. Through generous customer participation in the Round Up campaign from January 1 through March 31, 2026, CCPS received a donation of more than $7,000 to support student nutrition initiatives.
The funds received from the Feeding School Kids program play a vital role in CCPS’ ongoing effort to eliminate food insecurity among students. Specifically, the donation supports the division’s secondary weekend backpack program, which provides meals to middle and high school students over weekends and extended school breaks.
Last year alone, under the leadership of Carlene Tilson, CCPS Family Liaison, and Lisa Frazier, Culpeper County High School teacher, CCPS provided more than 1,900 weekend meals to secondary students using funds from this program. These meals ensure consistent access to nourishment for students who may otherwise face food insecurity outside of the school week.
In addition to supporting students in need, the program offers a unique, hands-on learning opportunity for high school students enrolled in Nutrition and Wellness classes. These students help manage the program by maintaining inventory, placing orders, organizing supplies, and packing meal bags. Their work not only supports their peers but also allows them to earn academic credit while gaining valuable life and workforce skills.
“This program is impactful on multiple levels,” said Karie Lane, CCPS Family Resource Center Director. “It allows us to meet a critical need for our students while also engaging other students in meaningful, service-based learning.”
The program’s impact is especially meaningful for students involved in its operation. One student shared that they once relied on backpack meals while in middle school and are now grateful for the opportunity to give back by helping provide the same support to others.
Culpeper County Public Schools is grateful for the partnership with MARTIN’S and the generosity of the Culpeper community. Together, they are helping ensure that students have the nourishment they need to succeed, both in and out of the classroom.
