Culpeper will celebrate Lafayette Days this coming weekend, August 23 and 24, 2025, honoring the Marquis de Lafayette’s 1825 visit to the community. The two-day event will include historical exhibits, walking tours, family activities, and special performances.

On Saturday, August 23rd, Culpeper County Public Schools’ student musicians will take center stage:

  • At 11:30 a.m., the Culpeper County High School (CCHS) and Eastern View High School (EVHS) bands will join together in the Public Square to perform “A New March for Lafayette.”

  • Later in the day, at 2:00 p.m., the CCHS and EVHS combined choirs will present a special performance on the balcony of Grass Rootes Restaurant on Davis Street.

Additional festivities include a curated exhibit at the Museum of Culpeper History highlighting Lafayette’s historic visit, walking tours of sites from 1825, and a family scavenger hunt. Local restaurants will also feature French-themed menu items in honor of Lafayette.

General Lafayette, a French aristocrat and supporter of the American Revolution, fought alongside the Culpeper Minute Men and returned to Culpeper in 1825 for a farewell tour. The weekend’s events pay tribute to his lasting legacy and the county’s connections to American independence.
