Celebrating Phoenix’s Classified Employee of the Year - Maureen (Moe) Bough

Maureen Bough, affectionately known as Moe, is extremely reliable, patient, and caring, qualities that make her invaluable to the Phoenix Alternative Education Program. She greets students each morning with a warm smile and demonstrates remarkable resilience, always willing to support any student.

Moe has eagerly taken on a wide range of responsibilities including monitoring the Learning Lab, supporting students, especially in history, where she holds one of her three master’s degrees, and oversees the Chromebook program. In addition, she supervises students during breakfast and lunch, works closely with English Learners, three of whom recently passed their first History LAA writing prompt. She also supports students in the Groundwork Project at Verdun.

Outside of school, Moe enjoys helping with her church youth group and other annual church activities. Recently she hosted players of the Culpeper Cavaliers.

An interesting note, Moe lived in West Germany for five years in the 70’s before the wall came down and is fluent in conversational German. After coming back to the states, she drove semi-trucks for thirty-six years.

Moe has a son and a step son, who have blessed her nine grandchildren. Four are enrolled in Culpeper County Public Schools. Moe enjoys playing the acoustic guitar, gardening, hiking, walking and enjoying nature, arts and crafts, and baking with her grandchildren.
