Seven students from Floyd T. Binns Middle School represented Culpeper County Public Schools at the Virginia Piedmont Regional Science Fair on March 12, 2026. Participants included Sarah Addai (6th grade), Martha Addai (7th grade), Layla Edwards (7th grade), Cora Law (7th grade), Gage Timkin (7th grade), Mark Nenyuk (7th grade), and Reagan Burgess (8th grade).

Seventh-grade student Mark Nenyuk earned first place in the Computer Science category for his project, “CPU vs. GPU vs. TPU: Which is Faster for Training an AI Model?” In addition to his category win, Mark received the AFCEA Data Analytics (Junior Division) Award.

Layla Edwards and Cora Law were recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Chemistry category for their collaborative project, “Pepsi versus Coke.”

Students worked closely with teachers Victoria Parks and Mrs. Herrington to prepare for the competition. Their dedication, curiosity, and commitment to scientific inquiry were evident throughout the event, and Floyd T. Binns Middle School is proud of their outstanding accomplishments.
