Actden -  This site has links to tutorials for a few software titles commonly used in schools.  Examples: Microsoft Frontpage, PowerPoint, and Office.           

ADDIE Instructional Design Model - Overview and description of the ADDIE Instructional Design Model.

Ask Jeeves Kids - A search engine for children, Ask Jeeves Kids provides a safe place for children to surf the internet.

Assure & Addie Model - A brief overview of two lesson planning models that integrate technology into the curriculum.

Assure Model - A lesson planning method that carefully considers the use of technology in the curriculum.

Beacon - The Beacon Learning Center website contains information on professional development and educational planning. This site also includes a student resource page, which has on-line lessons and books.               

Blue Web'N  Blue Ribbon Learning Sites on the Web - Blue Web'N is an searchable database of 1800+ learning sites. New sites are added every week.

Cyberethics for Kids - This website is maintained by the US Department of  Justice, it includes an on-line game that teaches the rules of the road on the information highway.  It has links to other cyberethics websites, as well as, lesson plans and information for teachers.            

Cyberguides - A list of guides developed to be used by teachers and students to evaluate the information found on web sites.

Discovery Channel -  This website is maintained by the Discovery Channel and has resources for teachers that include lesson plans and materials targeted toward the National SOL’s.

Distance Education Clearing House - Distance Education Clearing House – This webpage is maintained by the University of Wisconsin and contains links to K-12 distance learning resources.             

Education - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a nonprofit organization that strives to improve educational quality of economically disadvantaged children.

Education World - This website is a searchable database of educational resources for all content areas and grade levels.  There are also links and articles on professional development and current educational issues.

Eduhound - Eduhound has resources for all content areas grade levels K-12. Teachers, students, and parents alike can find the useful information through Eduhound.

eduTest  -  "Lightspan eduTest Assessment is a comprehensive, online accountability and assessment solution that allows educators to adapt instruction by quickly identifying school, class, and student strengths and needs relating to state and national standards. By providing tools and reports that are tailored to the needs of teachers and administrators in the school community, Lightspan eduTest Assessment gives schools and districts the power to implement effective instructional strategies throughout the year."

" Edutopia"  The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF)  GLEF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to collecting and distributing information on the most current practices in K-12 education. The foundation makes this information available in multimedia forms and has a database of all multimedia created since 1997. The information is organized into 13 topics which are divided into 3 categories, "The Innovative Classroom," "The Skillful Educator," and "Involved Communities."

Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) - ENC is a mainly geared toward the math and science content areas levels K-12. The site contains a large collection of math and science resources and includes information on professional development.

Electric Teacher - Electric teacher website has resources and tutorials for the following programs PowerPoint, FrontPage, Word, Photodraw, and more. There are links to community resources, resources for parents, for new teachers, search engines for children, and more.

Enchanted Learning - An excellent resource for teachers for science based lesson plans. It also includes resources for other content areas, craft ideas, and printable worksheets.

EvaluTech -  Evalutech is a searchable database of resources for math, social studies, language arts, and science teachers K-12. Provides teachers with, “up-to-date, reliable, and useful resources.”         

Fun Learning Plans - Fun Learning Plans’ website includes themed lesson plan booklets, for grade level pre-k –K, that can be downloaded for a fee. It also has free pintables and ideas for activities.        

High School Hub - "High School Hub is an online learning center for high school students. It features interactive learning games, puzzles, and quizzes. It also includes subject guides for English, foreign languages, math, science, and social studies."

Integrating Technology in the Classroom - A list of slide shows on ways to integrate technology into your classroom.

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Teachers - This website is maintained by an experienced teacher and contains many useful links.       

Kellybear -  Kellybear is a positive role model for children 3-9.  The Kellybear website is dedicated to promoting the well being of the child is an excellent source of resources for teachers and counselors.    

Kids Hub - "Kids Hub is a fun interactive learning center for elementary and middle school students.It includes educational games, puzzles, quizzes, spelling activities, and subject guides."

LoTi  Level of Technology Implementation Survey - Official LoTi site, developed by Dr. Christopher Moersch in 1994. LoTi attempts to accurately measure classroom technology use.

LoTi Lounge - The LoTi Lounge targets K-12 educators and includes links for instructional resources and information on professional development.

Microsoft Education - Home - Microsoft Education web page is an excellent resource for educators. This page has lesson plans, templates, online tutorials and more. You can find many ideas on ways to integrate technology into your classroom.

National Center for Technology Planning - NCTP is a clearinghouse for technology information. A primary goal of this site is to extend help to those who need help integrating technology into their planning.

Newspapers in Education - NIE contains online lesson plans that are oriented to newspaper resources through the internet. Other resources are grouped by categories including virtual fieldtrips.

No Child Left Behind Official Site - Site is maintained by the US Dept. of Education. Information available through this site includes policy and legislation, a newsletter, a parent's guide,  and educator resources.

NTIS-National Technical Information Service - "The National Technical Information Service serves our nation as the largest central resource for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today. For more than 50 years NTIS has assured businesses, universities, and the public timely access to well over 2 million publications covering over 350 subject areas. Our mission supports the nation's economic growth by providing access to information that stimulates innovation and discovery."

Online Reference Desk - The Online Reference Desk is a one stop resource for information. You can look up the definition of a word, a phone number, or even do a web search.

PowerPoint Tutorial Online PowerPoint Tutorial Interactive Courses - Link to a description of the PowerPoint tutorial available online through Tutorial Interactive Courses. This course and other courses available for a fee, there are some free resources available from this site.

Sites for Teachers - Sites for Teachers is a searchable database of lesson plans and educational topics. It covers all grade levels and content areas.

Teachers Hub - Teacher's Hub has resources for classroom teachers, homeschooling parents, librarians, and instructional technologist. Other resources include quizzes and lesson plans.

Technology in Education at AEL: 170 Ideas and Resources for Teachers - This is a list of 170 tips and resources for teachers on how to use and integrate technology into the classroom.

Technology Integration Projects -  This webpage contains links for technology integrated lesson plans for Language arts, science, math, and social studies.    

teem -Teem is an organization of classroom educators who  conduct classroom based evaluations of software packages. This website is a searchable database of over 1700 indepth software evaluations.

The Gateway - This searchable website is sponsored by the US Department of Education and is an excellent source of information on lesson plans and curriculum development for all content areas and grade levels.

U.S. Government Printing Office - The U.S. Government Printing Office is given the task of keeping the American public informed of government information.

VITAL = Virginia Initiative for Technology and Administrative Leadership - VITAL is a professional development project that is built around school principals. The goal of the project is to advance educational technology knowledge and integration.

Web Page Evaluation Criteria - An assessment tool for websites.

WebQuest - This is official website for WebQuest model designed by Bernie Dodge with Tom March in early 1995. The WebQuest model is inquiry oriented where most if not all of the information is drawn from the web.

WebQuest Planning Template - A template for the WebQuest model.

Wired Kids -  Wired Kids is a website that is written for children and teens and teaches about internet safety. It also includes parent and teacher resources.

Yahooligans - Yahooligans is the children’s version of Yahoo, it is said to be, “The Web Guide for Children.” It has links to games, music, e-cards, jokes, and more. In addition, it has resources for information on topics such as science, art, the World around us, and more.

B. Language Arts

CLWG: Children's Literature Web Guide - This site is a searchable database of information on children's literature that has been broken up into different categories. There are many resources available through this site including resources for teachers, parents, and writers.

EDSitement   -  EDSitement is a partnership between The National Endowment for the Humanities,  The MarcoPolo Educational Foundation, The National Trust for the Humanities, and the Council for the Great City. This website "brings online humanities resources from some of the world's great museum, libraries, cultural institutions, and universities directly to your classroom."

Read* Write* Think  by The International Reading Association and The National Council of Teachers of English - Read * Write * Think is a partnership between The International Reading Association (IRA), The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and  The MarcoPolo Educational Foundation. This site makes available the "highest quality practices and resources in reading and language arts instruction...."

C. Social Studies

American Cultural History - The Twentieth Century - This web site has information on the twentieth century, 1900-2000 presented by decades. Information to be found on this site includes Art & Architecture, Historic Events, Books & Literature, Music, Fads & Fashion, Persons & Personalities, Education, Theater & Film.

Country Reports - This web site is a good source of information on countries around the World.            

Colonial Williamsburg... Where History Lives - Official web page for Colonial Williamsburg. This site has a great deal of historical information. There are resources for teachers including and educational resource center and lesson plans. There is a kid's archeology page with activities and lots more. You can take a virtual field trip or buy tickets online to visit in person.

Country Reports - This web site is a good source of information on countries around the World.

EconEdLink by The National Council on Economic Education - EconEdLink is a program by The National Council on Economic Education and is a member of The MarcoPolo Educational Consortium. This site is a "source of classroom-tested, internet-tested, economic lesson materials for K-12 teachers and their students."

Gettysburg Informational Site  - This site is an excellent source of information and pictures for the Battle at Gettysburg. Site is put together from state of Maine perspective.          

Lives, the Biography Resource - Lives, the Biography Resource is a searchable database of posthumous biographies.

MarcoPolo: Internet Content for Your Classroom -   The MarcoPolo website is a very extensive resource for K-12 educators. It is the result of a partnership between the MarcoPolo Education Foundation and eight well known education organizations.  It has a searchable database to find information for lesson plans and technology integration. In addition, MarcoPolo offers professional development opportunities to teachers and administrators.

Mexico for Kids - Mexico for Kids is a site for young students sponsored by the Mexican government. It is available in Spanish or in English and provides a variety of information on Mexico. Information located on this site includes the history of Mexico, information on the government, biodiversity, and current news.

Organization of American States - The OAS website has a children's page that contains a wealth of information on the culture, history, folklore, and music of countries located in South, Central, and North America as well as the Carribbean.

NATO Official Homepage - Official website for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Various multimedia publications and printed materials are available through this organization, it is also a good source of information.

Voice of the Shuttle - The Voice of the Shuttle is a searchable database for higher level humanities.

Welcome to the UN. It's your world. - Official website for the United Nations and an excellent resource for global information.

Xpeditions by The National Geographic Society - Xpeditions is a searchable database maintained by The National Geographic Society. This site is also a valuable source for lesson plans that are sorted by geography standards and grade levels, printable maps, and classroom activities.

D. Math

AAA Math - This website has a large number of links to K-8 level math resources for teachers, students, and parents. Also included are learning activities and games that help students master basic mathematic skills.

Homepage for New Math Teachers - An award winning site with helpful hints for new, and not so new, math teachers. This site has lots of good information.

Illuminations  Highlights National Council of Teachers of Mathematics - This site is maintained by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and is a partner with The MarcoPolo Educational Consortium. Its goal is to "provide internet resources that will help improve teaching and learning of mathematics for all students." Included in this site is a searchable database of lesson plans, web resources, and interactive math tools.

The Math Forum - Math Library - Full Table of Contents - An alphabetical list of links to mathematics related information.

Virtual Manipulatives - This is an informational article comparing concrete and virtual manipulatives. Additional sources can be drawn from the references for this article.

E. Science

Biology Links - The Biology Links webpage is a list of links to Biology resources.

Bug Bios - This neat website has great photographs of insects along with their description and other information.  It includes past issues of Cedigest (Cultural Entemology) available for viewing online, as well as links to other valuable information on insects.

 Chem4kids  Student Oriented Web Site - Chem4Kids is an excellent chemistry information resource for students.

Dragonfly -  Dragonfly is a website with online lessons and information for students. This website is for elementary aged students and includes a page for teacher resources.      

Froguts.com - Froguts.com is an interactive website for anyone interested in learning more about animals. While visiting this site you can dissect a frog, an owl pellet, a squid, and more.      

Mineral Information InstituteMII’s website has links to information on our natural resources. It includes a homework help page for students and resources and materials for teachers.     

NASA - This site is maintained by NASA and teaches students about space exploration. It also gives information on upcoming space missions. In addition, this site includes a teacher resource page.      

Online Frog Dissection - Online Frog Dissection is a website maintained by The University of Virginia's School of Education. It takes you step by step through  the frog dissection process starting with the set up. At the conclusion of the frog dissection, the student is presented with a review and quiz.

Science NetlLinks by The American Association for the Advancement of Science - "Science NetLinks is part of the MarcoPolo Education Foundation. MarcoPolo partners the AAAS, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Council of the Great City Schools, the National Council on Economic Education, the National Geographic Society, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts." This site is a searchable source of lesson plans, web based resources, and interactive activities.  

SciFiles SciFiles  is a science based website for students and educators. It has online activities, as well as, reference materials.   

Teacher's Guide to International Collaboration on the Internet - This webpage is maintained by The Department of Education and is a list of organizations that promote cross cultural interaction.

The LAA Virtual Physics Lab - An article taken from Syllabus magazine, it discusses the different aspects of online virtual labs.

Using Technology in a Biology Classroom - This site was designed by two college students and is a source of information and resources for technology use in the Biology classroom.   

VDGIF > Education > Wildlife Education - Project Wild is a Nationally sponsored wildlife education program supported  by the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries. This program provides educators with materials and information to teach children K-12 about wildlife conservation.

Weather Website by NOAA- This web page is a publication of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, it list of resources for educators pertaining to weather. Some of the topics covered are  weather forecasting, weather history, and safety.

Webelements Online Periodic Table - Webelements is an online periodic table with links to information on each element.

F. Fine Arts

ArtsEdge by the Kennedy Center  ArtsEdge is a websit maintained by the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and The MarcoPolo Educational  Foundation. The goal of this site is to "place the arts at the center of curriculum......"

Canoo.net -  Canoo.net is a webpage reference guide for the German language.  It includes a German dictionary and guide to grammar rules.                    

Music Education Gal -  Music Education Gal is a website dedicated to music education. It has lesson plans, as well as, other useful links.

Technology Institute for Music Educators - The Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) is a non-profit corporation registered in the State of Pennsylvania whose mission is to assist music educators in applying technology to improve teaching and learning in music. Please browse the site and take advantage of the many resources offered here!

G. On-line Journals

Converge - Converge is an on-line magazine published monthly, it includes articles and reports on K-12 and higher education technology trends and policies. Its’ goal is to improve education through the use of technology in education.

Multimedia Schools - Multimedia Schools is a practical online magazine that meets the needs of educators.

Syllabus - Syllabus is monthly magazine dedicated to technology in higher education. Syllabus’ goal is to inform and educate teachers on ways to integrate technology into their classrooms.

Virginia Tech EJournals -  This webpage contains links to past issues of the Journal of Technology Education, which is published by Virginia Polytechnic University.  The mission of this journal is to “provide a forum for scholarly discussion on topics relating to technology education.”

Adobe's Education Page - Adobe's Education Page offers information and resource for the Adobe software packages.

AppleworksThis is Apple Computer, Inc.'s support website for the Appleworks software package.

Best Software in the Education World - This link is for an article from the Education World web site. The article describes 8 different categories of software for educational use and gives a list of criteria for evaluating the software.

Heartsoft Software - A link to the Heartsoft software company, a producer of math and language arts software.

Inspiration Software ( Kidspiration & Inspiration Concept Mapping) - Inspiration Software, Inc. is the producer of the Kidpiration & Inspiration concept mapping software packages. This site includes product information, information on professional development, technical support, a newsletter, and information on new developments.

Microsoft Kids ( Creative Writer 2, Magic School Bus) - A link to the Microsoft website that gives information on their educational software packages for young children.

Microsoft Office Homepage - Microsoft Office Homepage is the support web site for this software package. Information that can be found here includes product information, technical resources, downloads, templates, etc.

Riverdeep, The Learning Co., & Edmark Software Product Information - Website for Riverdeep, an educational software company which includes software brand names as The Learning Company, Edmark, and Broderbund.

"Software: The Best of the Basics" - Link to an article found on the Education World web site. This article is a compilation of the opinions of the Education World Tech team. Team members were asked to list the software they felt "essential to even the most basic educational technology program."

 

IV. Distance Learning

Criteria for Evaluating School-Based Distance Education Programs - An article giving useful information about distance education programs. This information was collected from a rural high school that used a distance education program to supplement programs available on campus.

Distance Education and Training Council - This site provides information on accredited distance education institutions, high school programs, degree programs, publications, as well as useful Web resources.

"Distance Learning, Mathematics and Quantitative Tools, and Technology Assessment" - Link to an article in Syllabus magazine that lists descriptions and links to information on distance learning, mathematics tools, and technology assessment.

Welcome to TEAMS Distance Learning - This is a great site for K-12 educators that includes classroom projects, news and newspapers, conferences and events, mathematics resources, science resources, history resources, language arts resources, art & music resources, and other K-12 resources. Although geared for K-12 educators, it provides a great deal of general information about distance education and how to provide synchronous and asynchronous learning.

 

V. Special Education

Abledata Computer Hardware for Those with Disabilities - This website is part of a federally funded program that provides information on assistive technology. It includes a resource page, a product information page, and links to other information sources. Information is drawn from domestic and international sources.            

Evalutech - Accessible Information Technology Resources - Evalutech’s webpage gives information on products, services, and guidelines for students with disabilities.            

Family Village  Computer Software - The Family Village webpage is an extensive world wide source of information and resources for cognitive disabilities, as well as, other types of disabilities. The site is designed for those with disabilities, their families, and for those who offer support.  Information available on this site includes information on diagnosis, adaptive products, adaptive recreational activities, education, worship, health issues, and more.              

Learning Disabilities Association of America -  The Learning Disabilities Association of America is an organization dedicated to improving the education of children and adults with learning disabilities. Members include students, their families, and educators.  Information available on this site include upcoming events, resources, and publications.     

Mentornet Resource Page - A webpage with links to assistive technology web sites.

NCIP Library - The National Center to Improve Practice in Special Education’s website is a resource for information regarding implementing technologies for students with disabilities.      

Office of Special Education & Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) - (OSERS) – This website is maintained by the Office of Special Education & Rehabilitative Services, it provides support to individuals, parents, and school districts. It is broken into three main areas, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, and research. OSERS also provides funding for programs that “serve infants, toddlers, children, and adults with disabilities.”

 

VI. Vendors for Teacher Resources & Classroom Materials

Classroom Direct  Classroom Supplies - Classroom direct offers a large selection of classroom supplies including furniture, art supplies, teacher resources, and math manipulatives. Orders can be placed by mail or online.

Teacher Created Materials - Teacher Created Materials is an educational publishing company started by two classroom teachers in 1982. This company only publishes materials that are created by teachers and materials are primarily used by other teachers and parents.

ATEC  Appalachian Technology in Education Consortium - "The ATEC is a consortium of public and non-profit private organizations that provide research-based direct assistance and practical solutions to educators striving to integrate technology into the classroom experience." Resources available through this site are information on professional development, technical services, and a searchable resource library.

International Society for Technology in Education - The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is a nonprofit organization with members worldwide. The organization provides leadership and promotes effective use of technology in K-12 and teacher education. Some of the resource available through this site are professional development, research projects, educator resources, etc.

Tapped In 2 - Tapped In 2 is an online community of educational professionals. Through this site members share, learn,  and support each other.

Virginia Society for Technology in Education - The Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) is an organization composed of students, parents, educators, specialists, administrators, superintendents, elected officials, and businesses. Members of this organization work together as to have an influence on technology innovation in education. VSTE is an affiliate of The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). This site includes a searchable database of educational resources and conference information.

Access Excellence:Virtual FieldTrips and Labs - A list of on line labs and virtual field trips.

Care USA Virtual Field Trips - Care USA is a private humanitarian organization based in Atlanta, GA. It was founded in 1945 to aid survivors of WWII and now strives to help families in the poorest communities of the world. Virtual field trips included with in this website are trips to Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, Ghana, Bolivia, Haiti, Kosovo, Madagascar, Nepal, Mali, and Honduras.

Glacier National Park - This web site has been developed by Karen Lemke of the University of Wisconsin's Geography Department. The materials are suited for research, study, and education. The site addresses various aspects of alpine the alpine glacial landscape.

Good Practices - Field Trips - A list of virtual field trips related to geological/ Earth sciences.

Guidelines for Virtual Field Trips - A short article with some some do's and don't associated with virtual field trips.

Innovative Teaching - Virtual Field Trips - This is supposed to be a list of virtual field trips that have been provided by educators who have found them to be of good quality. Some of the links do not work, but a number of them do.
