                            ADVISORY COMMITTEES TO THE SCHOOL BOARD

 

          It is the duty of the School Board to appoint advisory councils or committees of citizens of the school division for consultation with reference to specific matters pertaining to local schools. In addition, pursuant to the Code of Virginia, Board of Education regulations, and federal law, the School Board shall establish advisory committees for the following programs — school health, safe and drug-free schools and communities, gifted education, special education and career and technical education. These committees shall serve without compensation for one-year terms.

          A Remediation Program Standards Committee shall be established to recommend program components for remediation and evaluate the success of the programs. The committee may include, among others, the superintendent or designee, a teacher, a parent, and a representative of the community at large.

          A School Safety Audit Committee shall be established to evaluate, in accordance with the directions of the School Board, the safety of each school and submit a plan for improving school safety at a public meeting of the School Board. The committee shall include representatives of parents, teachers, local law-enforcement agencies, judicial and public safety personnel, and the community at large.

          A Parent Advisory Council shall be established to provide advice on all matters related to parental involvement in programs supported by Title I, Part A and/or Limited English Proficiency programs under Title III.
