Dear Parent,
Make the most of this exciting time of growth and opportunity as your child takes the first steps on the path to college success. In this special back-to-school issue, you can connect to some of the many free College Board resources that give you and your child a head start. Throughout the rest of the year, this newsletter will feature advice on topics ranging from study skills to college costs.
BUILD A SOLID FOUNDATION
Now is the time to lay the groundwork for college success. Exploring a wide variety of exciting majors and careers can help your child make the connection between high school and the future. Our Major & Career Profiles cover more than 600 fields.
Students encounter SAT(R)-type questions in a real-life testing situation when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT(R)), offered in October. The best way for your child to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT is to take challenging courses and read often. It's also helpful to review practice questions and become familiar with the different test sections.

MY ORGANIZER IS THE KEY
A free My Organizer account is the key to a personalized experience on the College Board website. Getting started is fast and easy. Students can keep it simple and use My Organizer to sign up for announcements and reminders about registration deadlines and other
upcoming events. Your child can even enroll you in the "CC a Parent" email service so that you receive copies of the emails we send.
But My Organizer has much more to offer. Students can save lists of their favorite colleges and keep custom calendars that target important college-related dates. My Organizer also provides access to the Freshman Action Plan and Sophomore Action Plan. These to-do
lists suggest seasonal activities to help your child succeed in high school and prepare for college, such as enrolling in Advanced Placement Program(R) courses and other challenging classes as well as participating in extracurricular activities.
