Seniors—12th Grade

Dear Parent,

School's just starting, but college admissions deadlines are right around the corner. Help make sure your child heads off to a suitable college this time next year. In this special back-to-school issue, you'll learn about some of the many free resources we provide to help you and your child get the job done. Throughout the rest of the year, this newsletter will feature advice on topics ranging from college application essays to financial aid forms.

GEAR UP FOR THE HOME STRETCH
This early in the year, your child is probably still deciding where to apply. College MatchMaker, our online search tool, identifies colleges by your child's choice of key characteristics. Your child can search by a wide range of variables, including majors offered, location, and available sports activities.

Now is also a good time to gear up for the financial aid process. Our Financial Aid Calendar provides access to articles, tools, and worksheets that guide you every step of the way, including the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

If your child is taking the SAT(R) this fall, there's still plenty of time to become familiar with the test. The free tools in the SAT Preparation Center(TM) include practice questions, a full-length test, and The Official SAT Question of the Day(TM). Your child can even sign up to receive the daily test question by email.

GET ORGANIZED TO GET INTO COLLEGE
Getting a handle on what needs to be submitted when is a real challenge, but the College Board can help. Our College Application Calendar gives you a bird's-eye view of the whole application process.

Students can also track their progress with their own free My Organizer account. Getting started is fast and easy, and they can use the account as often as they like. In addition to storing a list of favorite colleges, your child can create a custom calendar with key deadlines for those colleges, as well as test dates. Your child can also check the status of activities, get recommendations for next steps, and view the Senior Action Plan, with its seasonal to-do lists.

My Organizer is the place to sign up for email reminders and announcements -- we even notify your child the moment SAT scores can be viewed online for free. And if your child enrolls you in the "CC a Parent" email service, you'll receive copies of the emails we send.

SAT Test Date:
  - October 10, 2009 SAT
    Register by: September 25, 2009

Your child has an account on the College Board site and is presumably gathering information so you both can make an educated
decision about college. If your high school senior is considering taking the SAT, think about this: the SAT is the one test that
shows colleges what students know and what they know they can do. The test fills in the blanks about who they are -- how they think, problem solve and communicate -- along with how well they've learned their everyday course work.

We want to give students like yours the resources and tools to succeed. That's why when they register for the test online, they
can get free practice materials including an official SAT practice test, The Official SAT Question of the Day(TM) and the SAT In Focus(TM) tools: Skills Insight(TM) and My SAT Online Score Report. It's a great site where you and your child can go together. You'll both find lots of useful information to help ensure your child's SAT experience is a positive one.

THE DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 1. We've made the process fast and easy,
so have your child sign up today.

Text Box: Are you an 18 year old male?
Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service.  It’s important to know that even though he is registered, a man will not automatically be inducted into the military.  In a crisis requiring a draft, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth.  Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.
