Welcome to the Technology Department at Culpeper County High School. Technological advances occur on a daily basis and bring about many changes to the way we live. In the Technology Department, my colleagues and I strive to ensure each student receives a well-designed education experience that combines academic skills and practical applications.

General Description and Course Objective:

The Basic Technical Drawing course is designed as an introduction to “The Graphic Language.” This course will explore theories as well as disciplines, directly relating to drafting skills. Students will learn the techniques involved in constructing drawings skillfully, accurately, and neatly. Students will work both independently and in groups, to complete tasks under given deadlines. Skills in geometry will be introduced and reinforced through practical uses. Technical concepts used in this course will be directly related to appropriate Standards of Learning, especially geometry standards.

Textbooks are provided to your child. They can be checked out for extra study on the weekend. Before your child may receive credit for a class all materials must be returned without damage. Completion of all assignments is required prior to receiving credit for a course.

Assignments will include oral and written tests to reinforce learning as well as hands –on learning. The majority of grading will come directly from the student’s ability to create professional drawings, which show the student’s ability to put concepts to practical use.

If the student consistently tries and works hard he/she will know they have passed the course. If the student consistently refuses to participate, refuses to conduct him/herself responsibly in class activities, the parent/teacher will discuss if the student needs to be in the class.

If at any time during the year you would like to discuss these expectations, or your child’s progress, please call the CCHS Guidance department and request that a conference be arranged at the earliest convenience for both parent and teacher.

I look forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming school year. Together we can
create an environment where the student can succeed.
