Guidance Office

College & Career Information

Dear Parents/guardians of seniors:

More and more colleges are requiring the use of a secondary school report for students that have applied for admission. A full and candid report from the school is an integral part of the application.

Listed below are the three basic forms that colleges and universities ask us to provide. They ask that we complete and send them directly to the college and or university.

· Secondary School report - This provides demographic information as well as academic information on the applicant and the members of the class.

· Transcript: We automatically attach a copy of the applicant’s most recent transcript including:
a)  subjects taken, year taken and grades
b)  subjects failed or repeated
c)   subjects in progress
d)   test results, such as SAT, PSAT or ACT  (Please note, these results do not substitute for official score reports).  This is done automatically and therefore no additional requests for transcripts need to be made.

· Summary and Recommendation: Most schools require us to attach an appraisal, assessing personal and academic qualities that may be indications of promise as a college student. They are seeking a complete picture. They ask us to include both strong and weak points, general qualities of maturity, independence and character, as well as more specific details like goals and aspirations, special talents and the things that arouse the student’s enthusiasm. Ultimately, they must compare all applicants and try to choose those who will find their school's  challenges most satisfying.  This process can be greatly enhanced if you and your student complete the college bound information paperwork and turn them in to the school counselor.

Please double check to see if there is a secondary school report requirement for each school that your child is applying to and make sure that they turn the forms in to their counselor.  Please provide a 2 week window.  Counselors want to make sure that each student is presented in the best light and preparation takes time so plan accordingly.  We would hate to have to rush and complete recommendations or assessments that will not portray the student in the best manner.

Every month (except December) we hold workshops for students during BDP time in areas such as NCAA eligibility and application (we go through the process and show them how to apply to the clearinghouse), the college admissions process (we fill out applications, help students write essays, do college searches, and anything else that goes with finding a college and applying to one), off to college (I have applied now what do I do)  Attendance at these workshops have been rather low and we know there are seniors out there that need some help in these areas.  Please have your students sign up in the guidance office for upcoming workshops.

If you have any questions about the college admissions process please contact the school counselor.

Students are required to pick up completed transcripts and counselor’s summary.   It is also the responsibility of the student to mail their paperwork to their prospective colleges.

2. Once you have logged in, select “Enter/Update Amateur Questionnaire” from the options along the left side of the screen and answer or verify the amateurism questionnaire responses you previously input to make sure your responses are still correct.
