To Become a Substitute Teacher for Culpeper County Public Schools
   

The applicant must:

  1. Be at least 21 years old, or hold a Bachelor's Degree
  2. Hold a high school diploma or GED certificate, and
  3. Pass a criminal background check
  4. Must be certified through the Utah State University program "Substitute Teaching Institute" and provide the certification to the Human Resources Department, and
  5. Must present the Child Abuse and Neglect Certificate found at http://www.vcu.edu/vissta/training/va_teachers/

The applicant will:

  1. File a support application with the Culpeper County Public Schools Human Resources Office.
    A complete application includes includes 3 reference forms attached. The 3 reference forms need to be sent by the applicant to their references. The applicant's references may fax or mail the references to Human Resources.
  2. Take and pass the USU "Substitute Teaching Institute" Assessment with a composite score of at least 80%.
  3. Attend a substitute orientation. You will be notified by letter after receipt of your support application of the next orientation date and time.
  4. Be placed on the next School Board Personnel Agenda for approval.
  5. Be placed on the Substitute List for calling by the automatic calling system, SubFinder Express, after the School Board approval.

Note: You may indicate grade or school preference, if you have one.

The Rates of Pay for Substitute Teachers:

$90/day with a High School Diploma or GED

  • $100 per day with a 4-year or higher (BA/BS and higher)
    • $15 additional/day for substituting in the same classroom for 10 days or longer, going back to the first day you were in that classroom.

$8.00 per hour to substitute for an Instructional Aide (Para-Educator)
