Museum Field Trip ~ Spring 2002

Photo used with permission from The Museum of Culpeper History.

The following pictures were taken in the spring of 2002 when we went to The Museum of Culpeper History. We found that it is full of information, especially some of the things that we have been learning this year in social studies about Virginia.

We listened about the Native Americans living in Virginia before the first early settlers arrived and about the importance of the Rapidan and Rappahannock Rivers which are two of Culpeper County's borders.

We each had a turn grinding corn.

We talked about Governor Spotswood.

We listened about the Civil War and the battles that took place in Culpeper County. There were four: the Battle of Cedar Mountain, August 9, 1862; the Battle of Kelly's Ford, March 17, 1863; the Battle of Brandy Station, June 9, 1863; and the Battle of Culpeper Court House, September 13, 1863.

We looked at a large map of Culpeper County and could see the Rapidan and Rappahannock Rivers and places where the battles took place.

We enjoyed our visit to The Museum of Culpeper History. A special thank you to Mrs. Miner, Director of the Museum and to Mrs. Collie-Beard for making our visit so interesting. It is a state-of-the-art museum and full of history beginning with dinosaurs. It is located at 803 South Main Street, Culpeper, VA. They also have a wonderful website The Museum of Culpeper History.

Pictures taken inside the museum are used here with permission from The Museum of Culpeper History.Thank you.
