Parents - As Spring moves in and the end of the school year fast approaches, there are several school events that everyone is looking forward to. Along with all of these events comes the need for volunteers. Events such as Staff Appreciation Week, Prom, Senior Trip, Relay for Life, Senior Picnic and Graduation. We desperately need volunteers to help with these events. If you are interested in helping please contact Stephanie Burcham at 540-829-9319.

Summer Opportunities
Hollins University announces Hollinsummer, a program for high school girls. It will run July 11-23 on the Hollins campus. Students will live in a dorm, eat in the dining hall, take classes and engage in other out-of-class activities. The cost is $1,299.00. See your counselor for more information.
The University of Mary Washington has a summer enrichment program for rising juniors and seniors to be held on their campus in Fredericksburg. This is a non-residential program. There are two sessions, June 21 to July 2 and July 5 to July 16. Costs range from $250 to $600. Lunch is included in the fee. They will also have an SAT Review Workshop on Saturday Aug 7 and 14. Math review is in the morning and writing is in the afternoon. The sessions cost $200 if the student takes only math or writing. It is $350 for both workshops. QuestBridge is an organization that helps low-income students with college admissions to top colleges and universities. They are offering College Prep Scholarships for high school juniors. These include 10 full scholarships to college summer programs at Emory, Harvard, Stanfor, Notre Dame, Pennsylvania, and Yale; 1,000 invitations to QuestBridge College Admissions CConferences at Stanford and Yale; and 100 all-expense-paid visits to top-ranked colleges. Other winners will receive one-on-one college admissions counseling designed to help them succeed with their college applications. See Ms Bramley for details.
- Germanna Community College is planning a Law Enforcement Career Day, March 26, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., in the student lounge at the Locust Grove Campus of Germanna Community College. This is for students who are considering law or administration of justice as a career. There will be representatives from a number of law-related careers including local police/sheriffs, corrections, security companies, state police, and law enforcement training academies, U.S. Secret Service, FBI and others. In additions, a couple of local universities which offer the administration of justice four year degree will be there. Students who are interested in attending this event must see their counselor. We have only a limited number of spots for students, so see your counselor today to reserve a seat.
- Registration for the After School Arts Program is going on now! The Healthy Culpeper After School Arts Program is offering spring classes for middle and high school age students! Classes this session are Dance, Jewelry Making, Poetry & Creative Writing, Printmaking with Clay, Cartooning, and the Art of Cooking. Registration forms are available in the Main office with Mrs. Stuart.
- Applications are being accepted Feb. 1 through April 1 for the United States Naval Academy (USNA) Summer STEM Program 2010. STEM is held in three sessions: June 7-12, June 14-19 and June 21-26. The academy’s Summer STEM Program is an overnight academic camp designed for rising 8th-11th grade students in good academic standing who have an interest in math and science.
The STEM Program gives students the opportunity to experience real-life applications of math and science principles through hands-on practical learning. Students will learn from distinguished Naval Academy professors in world-class lab facilities that provide a unique learning environment outside the traditional classroom. The academy’s current students, known as midshipmen, help run the Summer STEM Program and act as camp counselors and tutors to students. Ms Bramley has more information about this program.

Attention Juniors: Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is sponsoring a Youth Tour of Washington DC in June. This is an all-expense paid trip which includes touring the city, meeting with legislators and interacting with other students from around the country. In addition, a $500 scholarship will be given to one of the participants. Please see Ms Bramley for information and an application.

The University of Virginia's Center for Diversity in Engineering has a summer program for students who are interested and curious about engineering. Rising juniors and seniors can apply to this week-long program. The cost is $400.00, payable upon admission. There is scholarship help available for qualified students. Information is available from the counselors.
Virginia Tech's Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity is holding a two week summer program to explore applications of engineering, math and science in a a fun and exciting way. The cost of this program is $800 and full and partial scholarships are available based on financial need. Please see your counselor for more information.
