Emerald Hill provides a variety of rich, educational technology resources for students. EHE has five mobile laptop labs and one desktop computer lab, with which students use a variety of programs, including the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Publisher, Word, etc) and a variety of online programs. Our TurningPoint systems are favorites among students. It allows students to respond to questions using hand-held response remotes. Their responses are graphed instantly, so teachers and students receive immediate feedback. We also have SmartBoards and Interwrite Schoolpads. These are cutting edge interactive technologies, which provide an exciting and interactive learning experience for students.
Students at EHE are also exposed to many educational websites and online resources. BrainPop and BrainPop Jr. are a collection of witty, educational videos on a variety of topics. The animation and humor in these videos grab students’ attention and provide a discussion point for teachers. Students in grades 2 through 5 have the benefit of using Interactive Achievement, an online program that tracks their progress throughout the year. It is a good educational tool for teachers during group discussion, and students have the opportunity to take individual quizzes. Teachers also use videos from SafariMontage to provide a different educational experience for students. Our school PortaPortal can be found on the grade level links on our web site and contains hundreds of educational links for students. We also realize the importance of teaching internet safety to our students, and we will use various resources, including www.netsmartz.org, to assist in the process.
