bulletKori Price, an 11th grade student at Eastern View High School, was successful in her audition for the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association All-Virginia Band and Orchestra. Kori made first chair contra alto clarinet in the Symphonic Band at the District XIII All District Band auditions in December. This made her eligible to audition for All State on February 28, 2009 at James Madison University. At the auditions, Kori made second chair in the All State Band. Kori plays contra alto clarinet in the EVHS Concert Band and soprano clarinet in the EVHS Marching Band.

bulletCongratulations to Culpeper County High School students Dustin Whisenhunt for winning the Piedmont Federation Small Engine Contest and Ross Swan and Jason Bunch for winning the Piedmont Federation Tractor Troubleshooting contest on Feb. 11, 2009. They will represent CCHS on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Central Area Contest.

bulletThe Financial Literacy Challenge is offered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and was recommended by the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy. More than 75,000 high school students in the U.S. and at Department of Defense Schools around the world took the Challenge. The average score was 52 percent. More than 18,000 students earned certificates of recognition for scores in the top 25th percentile of all scores.

bulletThe State Board Of Education named Farmington Elementary School a “School of Educational Excellence for 2009.”  Farmington has met all the state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and has made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities. CCPS congratulates the students, staff and parents of FES for their outstanding accomplishment.  

bulletThe Culpeper County High School 2007-08 Colonnade yearbook earned first place in the Virginia High School League’s annual competition. Yearbook editors were Ricky Sarpiento, Devin DiNapoli, Shawnee Sprifke, Andrea Dillard, Caitlin O’Brien, Megan Rastalo, Kaitlin Carver and Cassie Elliot. Teacher Michelle Edwards was the yearbook advisor.

bulletCongratulations to Carissa Ardizzone and Lea Sampsell from Pearl Sample Elementary School and Kristin Peters from Emerald Hill Elementary School! These students won the Montpelier poster contest and earned the honor of being "stars" in the living flag at Montpelier's Restoration Celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 17. A $24 million restoration was unveiled at the home of James Madison, America's 4th president and all of Culpeper's fourth graders were there to join in the celebration. Carissa, Lea and Kristin will have their posters on display at Montpelier's Visitor's Center.

bulletCulpeper Middle School showed improvement in 10 'AYP' subgroup areas. At CMS the English scores for students with Limited English Proficiency went from 37 to 64 and from 59 to 64 for Hispanic students. Math scores for the Hispanic subgroup rose from 49 to 61 and for LEP students from 35 to 54. Way to go, CMS!

Culpeper County High School and Farmington Elementary School met the higher benchmarks for AYP this year (77% or higher in English for all subgroups and 75% or higher in math for all subgroups).
