What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are free content feeds from Web sites that contain article headlines, summaries and links back to full-text articles on the Web. An RSS feed is readable by a number of different devices. When you sign up for our RSS updates, we will automatically send you a notice each time new information is added to the CCPS Web site. The feed will send the notice to your chosen RSS reader and provide a link to the content in case you are interested in reading more.
Why use RSS?
RSS is an easy way to learn when new content appears on your favorite Web sites. You'll save time by not browsing for news articles and features because the headlines and descriptions will come to you. RSS automatically tells you when something new is posted.
The feed can be sent to any XML-compatible device, including some cell phones, pagers or handheld computers. There are also a number of free RSS readers that you can download and use on your computer. When you check your RSS reader, you will see all of your notices from Culpeper County Public Schools in a list. You can click on the notices you want to read and ignore the headlines that don't interest you.
Where can I get an RSS reader?
You might already have an RSS reader and do not know it. Some cell phones can serve as RSS readers. Some Internet browsers such as Explorer, Firefox and Safari already have RSS readers built into the program. There are also reader options available through Google, Yahoo!, MSN, iTunes and more!
Click here to go to Wikipedia for a list of news readers with links you can click on to obtain the reader of your choice.
Once you've obtained a reader, subscribing to an RSS feed is as simple as knowing the right XML code.
For Culpeper County Public Schools, that code is: http://www.culpeperschools.org/feed.xml
Just copy and paste that code into the subscription window in your reader, and you're ready to go! Let us know what you think of our RSS news feed by writing to mckenna@culpeperschools.org.
