What is T.A.P. ?

T.A.P. stands for Tapping Academic Potential.  The Culpeper County Schools Gifted Program curriculum is based on both enrichment and acceleration and supports the Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools.  The program accommodates the high abilities of gifted students, and leads to greater knowledge and development of creativity and other thinking skills.

While participating in different units, students will develop the following skills in the following process areas while broadening their knowledge bases in different content areas:

• Open-ended, divergent thinking
• Flexibility and originality of thought
• Exploration of causality and linkages
• Creative problem solving
• Planning and decision making
• Verbal and written communication
• Fluency and elaboration
• Transformation of knowledge
• Independent, self-directed learning
• Critical and creative thinking skills
• Establish effective group behaviors
• Develop appropriate self-expectations
