Special Education Advisory Committee

School divisions in Virginia are required to have a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) to carry out the following functions:

      1. Advise school division of unmet needs;
      2. Assist school division in the formulation and development of plans for improving performance of children with disabilities;
      3. Participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting identified needs;
      4. Submit periodic reports and recommendations;
      5. Assist the school division in interpreting plans to the community; and
      6. Review policies and procedures prior to submission to the School Board.


Members must be either a parent of a student with a disability or a concerned citizen. Members may not be employees of Culpeper County public Schools.


VISION
It is the vision of the Special Education Advisory Committee to ensure that all children with disabilities within Culpeper County receive the fullest education possible, and achieve the highest potential possible, according to their ability.



MISSION
   To identify unmet educational needs of children with disabilities and to advise the Culpeper County School Administration and School Board to assure those needs are provided for and met.
   To meet identified educational services for children with disabilities by advising and participating in the development of priorities, options, and strategies to deliver those services.
   To provide needed educational services to children with disabilities by assisting in the development and formulation of long range plans to implement educational services and to increase opportunities for socialization and inclusion with peers without disabilities whenever appropriate.
   To promote special education programs and related services to all residents of Culpeper County by the use of programs, seminars, and the Parent Resource Center for the purpose of educating all citizens of all available special education resources.
